Study Arabic Language & More
The Sultanate of Oman, a land of natural beauty, friendly people and dramatic landscapes, is located on the southeast corner of the Arabian Peninsula in southwest Asia. Oman borders the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Yemen while the coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the south and east, and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast. Slightly smaller than Kansas in size, with a population of 2.6 million, Oman remains one of the most traditional countries in the region, yet it has seen rapid economic and social development in the past three decades, comparable to that of a ‘Renaissance.’ The economy is largely dependent on the production and export of oil and natural gas, but is becoming increasingly more diversified. Excellent tourist facilities are available in the major cities of Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, and Nizwa.
Programs in Oman:
Jabrin Castle -- An impressive sight to see, the palace is located in an oasis between the mountains of Jabal Akhdar. It was built in 1675 by Sultan Bila'rab bin Sultan al-Yaarubi as a summer residence. Although it has the form and structure of a military fort, it never served this purpose.
Muscat -- The capital of Oman and the country’s largest city, Muscat offers a friendly, historic and beautiful must-see experience. A thriving and strategically-located port of the Arabian Peninsula in ancient times, it has a somewhat medieval appearance that is said to enchant visitors like no other city in the Gulf.
Wadi Shab – Wadi, meaning “waterfall,” is a canyon-type valley with flowing water throughout the year. This wadi is noted as one of the most gorgeous and scenic destinations in Oman. Beyond the breathtaking entrance, the wadi rewards you with views of crystal clear pools, waterfalls and caves. The swim through the famous keyhole and beyond will surely leave you with lasting memories.
