Academic Credit: Language Programs
Students and
teachers who wish to receive credit for
AmeriSpan Language programs have three
options:
-
Pre-approval
at your college or university
Many times you can obtain credit for participation in an AmeriSpan program from your local university. This usually involves meeting with faculty from your Study Abroad or Foreign Language department. Sometimes your faculty will request a course syllabus or other information. Just let us know what information you need and we will be happy to assist you. Many of AmeriSpan's partner schools have agreements with colleges and universities, whereby participants can earn academic credit for their language study.
-
Credit
through Brookhaven College
Receive transferable credit
from Brookhaven College, a
fully-accredited, comprehensive
community college. Students may
earn up to 17 credits for
language levels: Beginner 1 & 2, Intermediate 1
& 2, and Advanced Spanish
Conversation.
AmeriSpan offers Brookhaven approved
programs in: Argentina,
Bolivia, Canada, China, Costa Rica,
Ecuador,
Italy,
Japan, Mexico, Morocco,
Peru and Spain.

-
Credit
through Seattle Central
Community College
You may earn 5 quarterly credit
by exam (3.3 semester credits) for 101, 102 or 103 levels of
Spanish and 101 levels of French, German, Italian and Japanese. This option does not require a minimum amount of study time. Rather, students have
6 months to pass a proctored examination at an approved site before their expiration date. An example of an approved site might be a library at a local university. In addition,
students must register for at least
9 additional credits at Seattle
Central Community College.
Students may also have to sign a
Contract of Commitment prior to
taking the exam agreeing to accept
the grade for the level of the
language for which they are
testing. The cost for each course is
$477 (all prices subject to change). Those interested can sign up AFTER the completion of an AmeriSpan Immersion program. We recommend that you check with the academic institution that you are attending to insure that credits transfer smoothly. Students should plan to enroll in an AmeriSpan program for a minimum of 3 weeks to insure a good exam grade. For more information contact:
