We normally ask that students be 18 years of age or over. We do however have special
teen summer programs for participants under age 18.
What level of language skill do I have to have?
None, we accept all levels from complete beginners to advanced levels.
How do I rate my language level?
Most programs will give you a written or an oral language placement exam when you start
the program but they request that you estimate your level when applying to give them a rough idea of your
level. Please go to Rating Your Language Level to help you with this.
Do I have to take a placement test?
Normally, yes, (unless you are a total beginner) a test is given the first day at school.
The test lasts approximately 20 minutes. This allows us to evaluate your language skills and helps us place you in the correct classes.
Some schools also conduct an oral exam as well to make sure you are placed in the appropriate class. In some cases, you may be asked to submit the written
portion ahead of time. Check our Downloads page to see if your
program location has a test listed to be filled out in advance.
How long can I go for?
Most of our programs are very flexible and you can select your length of time, from 1 to 36 weeks in length.
Students are responsible for ensuring that they have the correct visas to remain in country for the duration of their program.
Find visa links and all kinds of other predeparture information on our Get Ready page.
Do I receive a certificate at the end of the program?
Yes, upon request. Most of our programs offer a certificate of proficiency and some schools can also help prepare you for internationally recognized language examinations.
How are homestays chosen?
We require that the families live within a reasonable distance from school, have
ample living space, live in a clean, safe, comfortable environment, and enjoy hosting international students.
You are matched up with a family based on the requests that you list on your application.
Do you arrange excursions on the weekend?
Yes, in most cases we have optional trips to local cities or interesting places,
however any costs are not included in the program price.
What is not included with the program?
Program fees do NOT include: airfare, visas, departure taxes, and other minor "out-of-pocket"
expenses (bus fare, entrance fees, etc.) involved with school organized activities.
Will I meet anyone if I go alone?
YES! Over 85% of our participants travel independently and are looking to meet other
people with an interest in learning a language and discovering another culture. Not only will you meet other language
travelers but you'll meet locals as well, at the school, in your homestay and as you travel.
Who participates in your programs?
Our participants have been as young as 5 to 81 (accompanied by a tennis racket!). The
average age is 18-35 years and includes university and college age, young professional and independent travelers.
Is it any fun or just work, work, work?
Believe it or not it is fun most of the time, even when you are in class. Our programs
are geared to provide complete immersion which means learning by experience. Class material is presented in an
interactive manner, not a boring lecture format. Optional activities may include dance classes, cooking classes,
museum tours, afternoon excursions and school parties. Plus, you'll have lots of free time to create your own fun,
