Study Abroad in Jordan

Studying Abroad in Jordan is available in a variety of different forms including Arabic Schools, etc.

Jordan Overview

Considered part of the cradle of civilization, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is today a stable, constitutional democracy at peace with its neighbors. Sharing borders with Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Israel/West Bank, it is mostly arid desert plateau in the east, with the Highland area to the west. The Great Rift Valley of the Jordan River separates Jordan and Israel. Jordan shares borders of the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba with its neighbors. Its population of 6 million is a mostly Bedoin and those of Palestinian origins, with a small number of ethnic minorities (Circassians, Chechens, Armenians, Kurds, Turks and others of East European descent). Considered the safest country in the Middle East, Jordan offers historical treasures, great natural beauty, and great opportunities for the adventurous, including hiking, scrambling, rock-climbing, camel-trekking, 4WD excursions and more.

Petra - Petra is hidden behind an almost impenetrable barrier of rugged mountains, boasting incomparable scenes that make it one of the most majestic and imposing ancient sites still-standing today. It is famous for having many stone structures carved into the rock that look as though they have come straight out of an Indiana Jones set. The long-hidden site was revealed to the Western world by a Swiss explorer in 1812.

Holy Sites - A short drive from Amman is the location where John the Baptist held his sermons and baptized away his followers' sins. This is where Jesus was baptized. Another 45 minute drive is Mt. Nebo where Moses first saw the "promised land".

Wadi Rum - Spectacular desert landscapes of mountains and hills, Wadi Rum delights westerners with its evocation of Lawrence of Arabia. It's a great site for rock-climbing and other sporting activities.

Dead Sea - The lowest point on earth, over 400 meters below sea level. Sit on the water and read!

Aqaba - This Red Sea beach resort on the shore of the Gulf of Aqaba offers shopping, hotels, beaches and great water sports. Just over three hours from Amman by car or bus, the primarily industrial character of the town is mitigated by the fact that it is set between sprawling mountain ranges and boasts some of the finest coral reefs in the region.

Jerash - Considered one of the most important and best preserved Roman cities in the Near East, Jerash has colonnaded streets, arches, Roman theatres and the Oval Plaza.
