Study Abroad in Austria

Study German Language & More

Landlocked by its central European neighbors, Austria is an enchanting place with a rich cultural legacy, thriving art scene, melting pot of architectural styles and spectacular landscapes. A country with four distinct seasons, Austria’s Alps have some of the best skiing in the world along with plenty of opportunity for hiking and biking and other breathtaking outdoor activities for nature enthusiasts. Its unrivaled music tradition and cultural offerings make it a favorite destination for art lovers.

Programs in Austria:

Vienna Opera House - Built during the Italian Renaissance, between 1861 and 1869, the Vienna Opera House has a worldwide reputation for first-class performances. A night at the Opera House is one of the most impressive events any visitor to Vienna can experience. Despite having been destroyed by a World War II bombing and then re-built with its re-opening in 1955, it has regained its reputation of being one of the world’s greatest musical establishments. Regular tours are scheduled for a closer behind-the-scenes look and evening attire and black tie are recommended for first-night performances and in the better seats.

Salzburg - First made famous by Mozart and then by the filming of The Sound of Music in 1964, Salzburg offers many attractions, most of which are within walking distance of one another. It is a town as popular with Austrians as it is with visitors from around the world. Some of Salzburg's annual festivals are Mozart Week (January), the Easter Festival, the Salzburg Festival (summer), Culture Week (October) and Advent. Some cultural sights/activities within Salzburg include, Mozart’s home and museum (which houses a surprisingly modest array of articles related to his life), the Hohensalzburg Fortress, St Peter’s Abbey Church and various sites made famous by The Sound of Music such as the gazebo, St.Peter’s Cemetery and the Rocky Riding School.
