Argentina Overview

Argentina is the second largest country in South America and borders Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia and Paraguay. With an enormously varied climate, travelers can visit sub-Antarctic rainforests, tropical jungles, mountains, beaches, desert red canyons and awesome waterfalls. The bus system is one of the best in the world, offering movies, meals, and comfortable service to all areas. The population mix, as in Chile and Uruguay, is very different from the rest of Latin America because the population is almost all European. Most of the indigenous people were wiped out in wars during the 19th century.

Montevideo & Uruguay’s Beaches – Only 3 hours away from Buenos Aires is Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Farther north are Uruguay’s beaches, reputed to be the best in the world.

Iguazu Falls – Set in a dense jungle where Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina meet, these waterfalls may be the most spectacular on the planet.

The Andean Lake District – This area is popular with downhill skiers during Argentina’s winter (during North America’s summer). However, the deep blue lakes, pine forests and towering mountains attract nature enthusiasts year-round.

Patagonia – Enormous southern region with glacier-dotted mountainous interior, unique coastal wildlife, and Andean national parks. See penguins, seals, sea lions, rheas, sea birds, flamingos, and whales.
