Learn Italian in Venice
Italian Immersion in Italy
Learning Italian abroad in Venice, Italy is one of many language immersion programs offered by AmeriSpan. Known for its diverse regions, rich culture, and fabulous food, boot-shaped Italy possesses perhaps the most instantly identifiable physical shape of any country in the world. You can visit Roman ruins, gawk at Renaissance art, stay in tiny hill towns, ski the Alps, explore the canals of Venice, and see more churches than you can imagine. Naturally, you can indulge in the elementary pleasures of good food, improving your wardrobe, and seeking out "la dolce vita." From its beaches to its Alpine mountains, Italy vibrates with a special soul that is reflected in its people, music, and art.
Learn Italian Language in Italy:
Known as La Serenissima, "the most serene," Venice is a unique and beautiful treasure. This floating city is built on 117 small islands, has some 150 canals and 409 bridges (only three of which cross the Grand Canal). The historic centre is divided into six sestieri (quarters): San Marco, Dorsoduro, San Polo, Santa Croce, Cannaregio and Castello. It covers a deceptively small area (7.6 sq km/3 sq mi) - if you don't get lost (which you will!), walking from Cannaregio in the northwest to Dorsoduro in the south should take only 30 minutes. The city's 'main street' is the Grand Canal, which passes each of the districts as it twists along the length of Venice from the railway station to San Marco. Although it may be small, Venice offer a seemingly endless list of art venues, architectural masterpieces, cultural activities, and (of course) shopping and eating!
School Facilities:
The school is located in the center of Venice in a "campo" well-known by Venetians called Santa Margherita. This area is popular with both students and residents for shopping or meeting friends at one of the several open air cafes. Their large sunny terrace overlooks the plaza. Students have free access to Internet and a resource library. Capacity is 70 students/day.
Participants:
International mixture, most are Europeans with some US/Canada students
Accreditation Memberships:
Recognized by the Italian and Swedish Ministries of Education. Member of ASILS and Tandem International. Approved for credit through several US institutions including: University of Southern Mississippi.
