MEXICO’s people and geography are best described as diverse. Over 50 different indigenous groups, each with its own language, comprise 28% of Mexico’s 83 million inhabitants. Divided by the Tropic of Cancer into the temperate North and the tropical South, Mexico boasts snow-capped volcanoes, jungle clad beaches, deserts, archaeological ruins, modern cities, upscale resorts and isolated villages.
It’s not possible to experience all of Mexico in one trip as it’s such a varied country At AmeriSpan we can extend that statement to include our volunteer projects! You can choose from 6 destinations and dozens of projects. There’s an orphanage which houses mostly indigenous children from the poorest area of Mexico and several shelters for the homeless, battered women and at-risk youth. You can give workshops on hygiene, fund-raise for a local charity...the options are endless.
A different type of experience is available at the Nature Reserves which need volunteers to help in the office and with research on-site. It makes for a good combination of those that are looking to experience Mexican professional life as well as the beautiful Mexican nature. For those that like to stay active there are more possibilities: You can volunteer in a rehabilitation clinic, help implement fitness programs for the elderly or organize sporting events at the local university.
