AmeriSpan offers Volunteer placements in Ghana

Ghana is located in West Africa with a surface area about the size of America’s state of Oregon. This small country has a tropical climate year round and is geographically closer to the center of the world than any other country. Once known as the Gold Coast, Ghana finally attained independence in 1957 from the British Administration that held it captive for so many years. One of the most fascinating attributes of this country is that over 70 languages and major dialects are spoken countrywide with the official language of Ghana being English. Some of Ghana’s local languages include Akan, Ewe, Ga, Dagbani, Nezema and Hausa. Also, due to Ghana’s abundance of natural resources, the country has a better economy than other African nations, yet still relies heavily on international aid. The population consists of several ethnic groups, the biggest of which is the Ashanti that was once a kingdom in Kumasi.

Ghana is a beautiful country, where you can visit wildlife parks, lush jungles, rural villages and a picturesque coastline. The colonial history of this country has left many forts and sites to visit as well as the colorful and diversified culture of its ethnic inhabitants.

In Ghana volunteers will work for a local orphanage, helping children and staff members with lessons, activities and special projects. These children are looking for your company and guidance.
