Make a Difference in Guatemala
In
response to a large drop in
donations and fundraising in
Latin America, AmeriSpan has
decided to launch the “Make A
Difference in Guatemala”
donation drive to help
organizations avoid a
fundraising catastrophe.
AmeriSpan will be sponsoring
another container of supplies
headed to Guatemala in September. We need the following:
-
Cash for administration,
utilities and nutritional
snacks/food
-
school supplies (notebooks,
pencils, pens, paper,
crayons, coloring books)
-
personal hygiene products
(shampoo, soap, nail
clippers, tooth brushes,
tooth paste)
-
diapers for
adults and children
-
educational games/puzzles
-
shoes for children
-
mattresses
-
clothes (nothing too big,
mostly for children and
small adults)
-
computers (used/obsolete by
our standards are welcome)
Why
not pack a school backpack with
some school supplies, some
socks, a pair of shoes and some
personal hygiene products. Or if
you prefer, you can send a
monetary donation that will be
used toward the cost of shipping
and as direct donations to some
of the most needy organizations.
Organize A Local Donation Drive
Help
spread the word by organizing a donation
drive. Get 8 people to donate and
AmeriSpan will give you $75 off any of
our programs, get 15 donors to receive
$125 off and any organizer who gets 20
or more donors will receive $175 off any
AmeriSpan program.
Why Not Donate Directly?
Going through a coordinated donation
drive guarantees that your donations get to
the projects where they are most needed.
Secondly, AmeriSpan is working with
VIDA,
a 4-star charity that sends more than $25
million in medical supplies to Latin America
every year. VIDA's experience helps
insure that ALL donations get to the
projects by avoiding the common problems of
corruption and theft. Finally, you may
think you are donating directly so that all
your money gets to the project but often
there is a middle man who keeps as much as
10 or 15%. For example, AmeriSpan
chose to process credit card donations and
forward the funds to VIDA rather than the
usual way VIDA accepts credit card donations
because there was a middleman who kept 5% of
the donation.
