My first journey to Spain introduced me to the diverse regions of the country from mountain towns and cosmopolitan cities to seaside resorts. Along the way, I experienced the savory cuisine and sampled wines as varied as the landscapes of Spain. Not soon after my return I not only had a craving but a real interest in preparing the traditional Spanish meals I enjoyed. What was frustrating was that I was unable to find traditional Spanish fare cookbooks. I found that many cookbooks convert traditional Spanish cooking into Spanish-American cuisine. However my frustration disappeared when I happened upon “The Food and Wines of Spain” by Penelope Casa.
“The Food and Wines of Spain” cookbook is unique. It is a cooking and history lesson all in one. The numerous recipes provide instructional material, as well as information to how a particular dish is prepared in the Spanish region it comes from.
