Berlin Summer Camp

Germany is a historical yet modern country, split into sharply defined regions. Each region maintains its distinctive character with its own dialect, traditional dress and foods. Germany’s many modern cities stem from the time when it consisted of countless small states. North Germany has the delightful old seafaring ports, east is the beautiful cultural centers and south is the alluring Black Forest and those boisterous Bavarian beer halls. Along the Rhine and Moselle Rivers are picturesque castles and steep, terraced vineyards. From Frankfurt to Bremen runs a trail of villages that helped inspire the Grimm Brother’s fairy tales.

Berlin is laden with historical charm, a vast sprawling city with pockets of attractions dotted all over, from the old streets of East Berlin where little has changed in fifty years to the grand architecture of Museum-sinsel and Unter den Linden. Visitors will be pleasantly surprised by Berlin today, where one may find everything from authentic beer halls and old Soviet era haunts, to buzzing style bars and Latino nightclubs. Today's quintessential Berlin experience is to laze through a summer day in the Tiergarten with the rabble of construction just out of earshot, witnessing a city reinventing itself as one of the great European capitals.

School Facilities: The Berlin Summer Residential program is conveniently located in Berlin’s most central district, Berlin-Mitte. This area is known as Berlin’s cultural heart because most of the cities important sites, as well as the main train station, are located here and can be easily reached on foot. School facilities include bright classrooms, a large garden, and a roof top terrace. Participants are mainly from Europe, but a large number of North Americans also attend.

Accommodations are offered in a dormitory-style student residence. Each bedroom sleeps 4 students of the same gender. Rooms include bathroom with shower and toilet and a private wardrobe closet. Lines and bath towels are included and changed every 4 days. In the residence, students can also enjoy shared living rooms, an Internet café, and a large space for activities.

Activities/Excursions: Organized activities and/or sports are included daily. Examples include: sightseeing throughout Berlin, films, bicycle tours, barbecues, dances, concerts, workshops, soccer, ping-pong, volleyball, and other sports tournaments. One full-day excursion each weekend is also included.

Lodging & Meals: Dormitory/residence with 3 meals/day

Supervision: This is a very structured program with many activities. Participants are not able to leave the camp premises unaccompanied and must abide by camp staff rules and regulations pertaining to lights out, policies and procedures, etc. An entire team of teachers/camp employees will oversee the day-to-day care, activity and learning for each participant. Camp teachers will coordinate the basic program sports and activities for the participants. The teachers will always accompany participants on the excursions organized by the camp off campus grounds. The Director of the camp center is present daily to supervise the staff and ensure a safe and active learning environment for all camp participants.

To/From School: Language classes held on campus grounds.
