Teenager Delegate Scholarship

Overview:

AmeriSpan Teenager Delegate Scholarships are available for middle and high school study abroad programs that are 3 weeks or longer. These scholarships are available in all teenager program locations. Upon completion of your program, you will need to submit a report/evaluation and will be required to act as an AmeriSpan Teen Delegate for one academic year. Further, to complete the scholarship requirements your parent/guardian will be required to complete our parent evaluation and serve as a reference for AmeriSpan Teenager Programs and services.

We generally only grant 1-2 Teenager Delegate Scholarships per location per semester or summer. This will be determined on a first come basis.

Requirements:

  • GPA - You must presently be enrolled in a US high school and have a minimum of a 2.7 GPA (or equivalent).
  • Essay - You must write & submit a letter/email (350 word max) explaining how/why you are qualified to be an AmeriSpan Teenager Delegate.

Teenager Delegate Responsibilities:

  • Blog While Abroad - Submit at least one blog a week while abroad. Blogs can be 2-5 paragraphs and can discuss any aspect of your experience. The blogs may also be submitted in the form of a 2.5 to 6 minute video blog.
  • Detailed Written Evaluation - Upon completion (no later than 21 days after program end date) of your program, you must submit a detailed evaluation of your experience and of the program.  This evaluation should be a minimum 2-3 typed pages and address things such as: AmeriSpan's pre-departure services, classes, facilities, activities, excursions, lodging and onsite staff.
  • Completed Parent Evaluation & Reference - Upon completion of your child’s program, as parent/guardian you must complete our Parent Teen Program evaluation about your experience with AmeriSpan and your teenager’s program. In addition to the completed evaluation form parent/guardian must act as a reference for one year and be available to correspond via email with prospective teen program clientele and their parents/guardians.
  • Photos - You should plan to take photos while at the program.  These photos are to show prospective students what the program is like and should encompass the facilities, classes, lodging, excursions, the city and country.  A copy of these pictures will be delivered to AmeriSpan with the Detailed Written Evaluation.
  • AmeriSpan Teenager Delegate - You will act as an AmeriSpan Delegate for at least one year.  This includes the following:
    • Organizing a meeting with your high school foreign language instructor(s) and AmeriSpan Representatives. This may be in the form of a telephone conference call.
    • Organizing at least one meeting at your high school or public meeting place to share your experience with prospective students and their parents/guardians.
    • Allowing AmeriSpan to make available your email address and your parents/guardians email to prospective students and their parents for 1 year.

Applying for a Teenager Delegate Scholarship:

  • Deadlines - The deadline to apply for an AmeriSpan scholarship is prior to or at the time of registration for your AmeriSpan program.  Scholarships are awarded based on merit and/or need, on a first-come first-serve basis. Scholarships are not available after you have already applied and accepted to a program.
  • Special Note - You apply for more than one scholarship but usually AmeriSpan only grants one scholarship but if your story or needs are great we may grant more than one.
