Overview

What do they say? "50 is the new 40!" We would like to introduce you to 15 programs ideally suited for the more mature participant. You should realize that all of our programs accept people of all ages. However, traveling during the months when college students are in class at their universities will ensure an older average student. With this in mind, we suggest not participating during the summer or January if possible.

1. Oaxaca, Mexico

Oaxaca was declared a UNESCO "World Heritage Site" because of its many archaeological sites and its beauty. This enchanting city offers several views of the hills and valleys that surround it. Upon arrival travelers will be enthralled with Oaxaca's European-like characteristics, found in the architecture, the vibrant art and quaint cafes that line the bustling central plaza. Travelers will also find pleasure in the diverse regional cuisine, just one of the many attributes Oaxaca is known for. The city's location offers pleasant weather year-round, with fall and spring bringing the most desirable climates. 2. Marbella, Spain

Marbella is a lovely, upscale beach resort town situated in the foothills between La Concha Mountain and the warm waters of the Mediterranean. It is an excellent location to combine learning Spanish with some of the comforts of home. The shopping is excellent and the celebrity-filled nightlife of Puerto Banus is just a short taxi ride away. You can take in the Moorish architecture in the Casco Antiguo and easily visit fascinating Andalucian destinations such as the Alhambra in Granada. 3. Quebec, Canada

What better way to feel young than to be surrounded by 400-year-olds? That's what you'll find in Canada as Vieux Quebec celebrates its 400 years of history and culture! 6. Italian & Culture for 50+ (Siena, Italy)

In this course designed especially for Golden Aged travellers, students over the age of 50 will join in classes and activities together leaning about the culture and history of Siena and Italy. In the heart of Tuscany, Siena makes an ideal location for adult travelers. Rich in history, Siena's center is packed with medieval treasures. In addition to sightseeing, students can also enjoy wine tasting with expert sommeliers and relax at the popular Rapolano Spa. 7. Spanish for 50+ (Alicante, Spain)

The historic Mediterranean port city, Alicante, located on the eastern coast of Spain, is known for golden beaches and a relaxing atmosphere, making it one of our most popular Golden Age programs for seniors. With many museums, churches, castles and top quality shops, one can never get bored in this pleasant and easy- to-traverse city. The program includes 5 hours a day of Spanish classes and special cultural activities, trips, and excursions for 50+ participants, such as visits to museums, guided walking tours and flamenco shows. 8. Spanish for 50+ (Pamplona, Spain)

Sure, Pamplona is most famous for its grand tradition of the "Running of the Bulls," but the other 50 weeks of the year, this northern Spanish city of 200,000 is a great site for a relaxed visit to sunny Spain! Many tourists rush to Madrid or the coast, overlooking Northern Spain, but those who have visited know it is a hidden treasure. 9. Chinese & Culture for 50+ (Shanghai, China)

Known as the "Paris of the Orient," Shanghai offers travelers a blend of ancient China and colonial Europe. This cosmopolitan city offers modern conveniences and comforts, while still maintaining a high level of language and cultural immersion. This 50+ Program is an ideal opportunity for golden-age students who wish to practice the Chinese language and experience Chinese culture while meeting people of a similar age and with similar interests. This two-week program places older students together in classes and social activities. Each week, two afternoon activities and one evening activity are included in the program. 10. Antigua, Guatemala

This lovely colonial town offers you the ability to experience true Guatemalan culture without straying far from home. The local government works to keep the history alive here, including restricting the colors that buildings are painted to the original seven colors of the town. You are a short ride from the beautiful black volcanic beaches in Playa Monterrico, and also can easily reach the famed Lake Atitlan or the awe-inspiring ruins at Tikal. 11. Bamberg, Germany

Bamberg, located in Bavaria, is one of Europe's largest medieval cities. It's one of the few in Germany that was not destroyed by World War II bombings, with over 2000 buildings left untouched. Bamberg's charm will enthral you upon arrival. Its medieval and baroque architecture are immediately apparent, giving it a fairy tale vibe no longer easily found in Europe. Cafes, museums, a 12th century cathedral, breweries and adorable shops line the cobblestone streets. It's no wonder that many describe Bamberg as Germany's most romantic city! Bamberg's rose garden is a big draw during the summer months, featuring over 4500 roses in 75 beds. 13. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Students can also bask in the temperate weather year round while visiting San Miguel's flowering gardens or stopping to view the city's colonial architecture. The best time to get the 'real' local feel of San Miguel is in the late fall or early spring where tourism is not so bountiful and students and locals alike can partake in or view the charming mix of Mexican traditions, religious celebrations, and fiestas. For those looking for a new place to reside, this location is popular for those explorers who are interested in settling down, or even retiring in a place as captivating as San Miguel and some of Mexico's other neighbouring areas. 14. Salamanca, Spain

Home to the second oldest university in the world, Salamanca is widely considered Spain's most attractive city. It is a draw for students and more mature tourists alike. Located a couple of hours from the hustle-and-bustle of Madrid, Salamanca is filled to the brim with history and Spanish culture. Visit surrounding towns to enjoy typical tapas or just wonder at the awesome examples of Plateresque and Churrigueresque architecture. We highly recommend becoming a regular at the sidewalk cafes in the Plaza Mayor, which are filled with storks and tourists during the daytime, but in the evenings are infiltrated with authentic flamenco street performers and home to some excellent paella. 15. Cuenca, Ecuador

Many adventurous seniors are choosing to retire in South America for great real estate investments and low costs of living. Cuenca, Ecuador is joining Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama as a great location for seniors to visit or live. With roots tracing back to the 6th century, UNESCO has dubbed Ecuador's third largest city a World Cultural Heritage site. Cobblestone streets and thriving downtown shops in stunning colonial buildings will amaze anyone who wishes to experience a glimpse into a beautifully preserved past. Known to many scholars and artists as the "Athens of the Andes," Cuenca offers visitors churches, pre-Hispanic ruins, museums, indigenous markets, and a year-round spring- like climate.
