Study Abroad in Panama

Studying Abroad in Panama is available in a variety of different forms.

Panama Overview

This S-shaped country is the southernmost country in Central America, bordered on the west by Costa Rica and on the east by Colombia. Although Panama is often overlooked by tourists rushing to South America, the country has some interesting attractions, including the Panama Canal that connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Panama also offers some of the finest birding, snorkeling, and deep-sea fishing in the Americas. In fact, the country's indigenous name translates to "abundance of fish."

San Blas Islands - One of the most popular sites for ecological tourism. A veritable green paradise of white sands, transparent waters, coral reefs and colorful fish, and also home of the Kuna Indians. Share the life of the Kunas: food, dance, rites, traditions, and Molas textile crafts. Snorkel, take a walk, or rest in a giant hammock.

Metropolitan National Park & Amador - The only upland forest in Latin America near a city. Full of Titi monkeys, armadillos, green iguanas, deer, sloths, birds, unique vegetation, and a trail to hike. There is beautiful and untouched Amador Beach on the Pacific, and the Smithsonian Biological Museum.

El Valle de Anton - Visit this rustic valley surrounded by mountains, the Charco Macho Waterfall (Canopy Tour), Nispero Zoo with its varieties of orchids, and the Sunday Indian market.

Sobernia National Park and Camino de las Cruces - This Rainforest full of flora and fauna has historical significance: it is the road used by the Spanish on their way to conquer Peru.

Taboga Island - The 45-minute boat ride to Toboga allows one to experience the beauty of the Panama Bay and see the main approach to the Panama Canal from the Pacific. Known as the island of flowers. Autos are not permitted.
