Participating in the Hilltribe volunteer program in Northern Thailand gives volunteers the opportunity to meet local rural communities while also getting the chance to really understand the culture and traditions of this fascinating part of Thailand. This program is all about discovering, reflecting and respecting Northern traditions. One of the aims of this project is to experiences different ideologies and different standards of living.
The essence of this week is to spend time with the Hill tribes and learn about their cultures. During this project volunteers will also visit local markets and help local initiatives.
During these 2 weeks volunteers will work with an organization that supports minority groups in Thailand. The type of work is very diverse, from construction to teaching and working with the villagers on special projects. Volunteers are expected to be flexible about the nature of the work as it can vary according to the needs of the community.
Volunteers will also have the opportunity to learn how to cook Thai style, by preparing daily meals with the help and assistance of new Thai friends and other volunteers.
Airport Pickup:
Volunteers should arrive in Bangkok (BKK airport) on Sunday, where transportation will be provided to Singburi (about 2 hours north of Bangkok) for the introductory week.
Work Schedule: Determined on site.
Location of Placements: Various villages around Chiang Rai / Northern Thailand
Lodging: Homestay, but will depend on placement.
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Duration: 2 weeks only.
- An open mind and an ability to show initiative.
Important Things to Consider:
- Thailand is a tropical country with seasonal storms, heavy rains and floods.
