There are 30,000 Buddhist temples in Thailand, where monks live and study. These temples (known as "Wats") are both religious and social centers, receiving funding through donations and the generosity of the monks themselves. Most of Buddhist temples in Thailand run schools (primary or secondary) which offer educational opportunities for local children. These schools are located in the same complex (compound) where Buddhist temples are located.
Volunteers will teach 5 days a week, Monday-Friday, focusing on conversational English by telling stories, playing games, and performing plays. You should also focus on vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Participants will have the assistance of school supervisors to develop lesson plans. In addition, volunteers will arrange sports games and extra-curricular activities, to further engage the students.
