This is an organization created in 1995 and operated by the Policia Nacional del Peru. Its mission is to help children and adolescents who are working in the streets; to help high-risk youth; and to promote and protect the rights of children in Cusco.
Volunteers assist the youth with their homework, help to organize activities, initiate creative workshops such as painting, drawing, dance, and crafts and also organize sports and recreational activities for the youth. Volunteers may also assist with the orientation process offered to new youth attending the program or to youth who are still on the streets.
Work Schedule: Shifts usuall start in the late afternoons around 5:00pm.
Location of Placements: Cusco
Lodging: Shared apartment. Homestay available at extra cost.
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
- Minimum Spanish level: Mid-Intermediate
- Sincere interest in helping children.
- A lot of energy and patience.
- Creativity and organizational skills.
- Intiative and independence.
- Ability to tutor in Math and English; ability to organize activities.
