This is a religious non-profit organization directed by the Congregation of the Holy Rosary in Cusco. The center works with about 45 children and adolescents and offers afternoon sessions. The program offers: 1) Education to enable preparation and reinforcement of school work and literacy (first 2 hours of each session is dedicated to the educative part of the program) 2) Formation to develope self esteem and cultural identity. (one of the volunteers is a qualified psychologist.) 3) Attention oriented to form them in values and to prepare them for adult life. 4) Life skills: children prepare their own meals, with the help of staff, which are provided at the end of each session.

From 3:00-4:30pm volunteers help the girls with school work. At this time, volunteers provide tutoring and or small class sessions (mathematics, language, etc.) depending on the professional specialty that volunteers have. Volunteers may also provide basic English classes to the girls. From 4:30-6:30pm different activities are carried out: handicrafts, sports, recreation and art. For this it is necessary that the volunteer show initiative in organizing activities, depending on their background, skills and interests. For example during the months of November and December the girls prepare Christmas cards. Volunteers that have artistic skills/interests will be able to direct this activity.

Work Schedule: Varies. Usually Monday to Friday, from 15:00 to 18:30.

Location of Placements: Cusco

Lodging: Shared apartment. Homestay available at extra cost.


Requirements:
  • Minimum age: 18 years.
  • Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
  • Minimum Spanish level: Low-Intermediate
  • Show interest in the girls and be willing to help them as needed.
  • Have a great deal of energy and patience.
  • Creativity and organizational skills.
  • Initiative in organizing extra activities.
