If you are embarking on a career in medicine, then this project is the perfect experience for you. With a wide range of activities suited to applicants with various levels of skills and experience, you can be sure of a varied and in-depth internship from which you will gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the challenges facing medical and health professionals in a country such as Nepal. In this program, volunteers will get placements in a community health center in Chapagaun village near Kathmandu. Volunteers on this program will have the opportunity to carry out basic health checks in health clinics, observe Nepali doctors in hospitals and practice in your specialized field. Participants will also be involved in health camps organized by the health center in community schools and near villages. If participants are qualified, medical professional then you have the opportunity to work more and directly with Nepali patients check up in OPD unit. As a pre-medical student, participants will be able to observe and shadow the doctor in all units of the health centers. Nepal could be the best place for getting and doing research on public health, women and children health issues.

Work Schedule: Varies Monday to Friday, TBD on-site.

Location of Placements: Chapagaun village near Kathmandu

Lodging: The participants will be staying in a volunteer center in shared bedrooms. All three meals are provided here. The food is generally traditional Nepali and is a variety of dishes made of rice with sauces and vegetables. Meat is also served, especially chicken. All participants are expected to be environmentally responsible and to use all resources with restraint, especially water, paper and electricity. You will be expected to clean up after yourself, and to play your part to keep the accommodation neat and tidy.


Requirements:
  • Minimum age: 21 years.
  • Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
  • Minimum English level: Mid-Intermediate
  • Special Skills or Experience: Medical Training or Some Med School
  • You must be motivated and enthusiastic!

Important Things to Consider:
  • There are local buses that take you to around Kathmandu, or you can take taxis to get around.
  • There are several ATMs located in the city.
  • The nearest Internet cafe is at a walking distance from the center.
  • You can make International calls from the telephone booth located near the center.
