Local hospitals in Nepal lack the resources and manpower required to provide proper care to their patients. Volunteers are urgently needed to assist doctors in rural hospitals and community clinics.
Placement tasks vary, depending on education, qualifications, and past experience. While volunteers will not be performing major operations, they will assist doctors. Participants will gather vital signs, such as blood pressure, height and weight, and temperature. You may also be asked to work in local health camps, distributing medicine, counseling patients, treating minor wounds, and providing basic information about health, nutrition, and sanitation.
Work Schedule: 30-40 hours/week.
Location of Placements: Kathmandu, Chitwan
Lodging: Host family
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 2 weeks.
- Minimum English level: Mid-Intermediate
- Valid health care certification (such as a medical student ID, nursing credentials, EMT certification, etc.).
- Good communication skills.
Important Things to Consider:
- Volunteers are not allowed to perform major surgery.
- Due to lack of funding, the hospitals and clinics may be more primitive than those you are used to.
- Volunteers without medical experience are not allowed to participate in this program, due to potential risks.
Other Comments:
The maximum number of volunteers that this organization accepts is 3-5.
