English is not yet considered a primary subject in public schools and, due to extreme poverty, many students cannot afford private lessons. In today's world, English is becoming more and more important, especially in the work place, and those with little or no knowledge of the language, are put at a disadvantage. By teaching English to these children, you can help make a positive difference in their lives, both now and in the future.
Volunteers will work as an independent teacher or a teacher's assistant in a government (public) school. You will teach conversational English and help organize extra-curricular activities to reinforce your lessons. These may include playing games, singing, or art lessons.
