Alternative Day School Guatemala Volunteer Placement

The project was founded in January 1992 to provide a positive alternative to life in the streets for high-risk children. It is a non-governmental, non-profit organization. An innovative project set up to help working children from 4-17 years old, providing a work-study program, nutrition program, and primary education. The children stay at school from 8:00am -5:00pm.
Volunteers can work as teachers' assistants, teach English, help to organize educational and recreational activities or in the library. Volunteers may help teach math, reading, and English classes or tutor children individually. Those with related skills can help in the area of craft production/marketing.
Work Schedule: Usually a flexible schedule between 8am-4pm. Can work mornings or afternoons.
Location of Placements: Antigua, walking distance from the center of town.
Lodging: Homestay
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
- Minimum Spanish level: Mid-Intermediate
- Flexible, patient people needed
- Related experience
- Teaching experience preferred.
Important Things to Consider:
- Very few teaching resources.
- Informal and somewhat disorganized structure. Patience is a virtue!

The maximum number of volunteers that this organization accepts is 5.
(note: that we don’t know if positions are available until you apply).
*Volunteers are asked to pay $25 as a contribution to the project. Other donations such as: pencils, erasers, crayons, etc are appreciated. It is also advisable to bring teaching materials.
