This is a non-profit organization founded in 1999. The project aims to join volunteers to provide hope and assistance to the children of families working in the Guatemala City Garbage Dump. This organization represents an effort to help the poorest of Guatemala's children break out of poverty in a dignified way through education. For the many children who come to us each day, the program represents a safe alternative to being in the streets or work in the City Dump. As a part of this intensive program the children receive: Assistance with enrollment fees, school supplies, books and uniforms, educational reinforcement and tutoring as well as a variety of other support services.
Volunteers assist in the care for children through planning and implementing creative, fun, educational and art activities. Volunteers supervise games and recreational activities, they tutor children and assist with homework. Depending on experience, volunteers can also serve as a classroom assistant to a local Guatemalan teacher and coach sports teams and plan athletic activities. As an office volunteer, you may assist with everything from data entry, record keeping, letter writing, answering emails and helping with the sponsorship program. Also, sometimes assisting on the computer using programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Access is helpful.
