HIV/AIDS is one of Ghana's most serious health threats, claiming the lives of hundreds of children each year. This placement, aimed at HIV prevention and education, hopes to end the AIDS threat by promoting behavior changes. Community groups, schools, and clinics participate in facilitated HIV discussions and sexual health education courses. This placement is open to those who wish to donate their time, love, and passion to HIV-positive patients.
Volunteers will care for children and adults with AIDS, as well as engage local villagers in edcuational activites to spread awareness about HIV transmission. Volunteers will also provide counselling in major hospitals and engage local youth, men, and women in educational prevention programs.
Work Schedule: 30-40 hours/week.
Location of Placements: Akatsi (Accra)
Lodging: Host family
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 2 weeks.
- Minimum English level: Mid-Intermediate
- Compassion and flexibility
- Good communication skills
Important Things to Consider:
- You will be in direct contact with HIV-positive patients.
Other Comments:
The maximum number of volunteers that this organization accepts is 3-5.
