  • Part-time volunteer
  • Volunteer Only

Only two hours from Quito, this small community has taken great strides in the path of sustainable development while maintaining both its cultural and natural heritage. Almost fifty families have joined forces to work in the production of jams and jellies from local fruits, delicious cheeses, sustainable agriculture, reforestation, research and tourism. The community has also been proactive in developing production processes from start to finish, from planting the seed to selling the final product either in their own market, in Quito, or for exportation. The main aims of the project are: • To provide a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable income for the community and its residents • To protect and restore the native ecosystems of the region • To promote intercultural exchange between community members and nonresidents

The volunteer project is relatively new, and as such, volunteer flexibility is vital in order to fulfill the dynamic needs of the project. You’ll be involved in some or all of the following activities: • Reforestation • Orchid propagation • Production of jams and cheeses • Teaching English • Ecological research • Organic agriculture • Paper recycling

Work Schedule: As a volunteer, you will work from 8.30am – 4pm with tea and lunch breaks.

Location of Placements: 2 hours outside of Quito

Lodging: You have the choice of either staying with a host family, or within a main cabin with other volunteers.
