Comite del Pueblo is a low-income, marginalized neighborhood of Quito. In this neighborhood the parish has become very active in community services. This particular placement, is in the hospital that the parish initiated to provide medical care to the poor in the community. The parish also created other services such as a day car program to which students can come after their regular classes and do their homework. Other services provided by this project are elderly care services and a public library.
Volunteers with medical backgrounds can help in the hospital. The hospital has the following departments: Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Dentistry, Internal/External Medicine and Rehabilitation. Volunteers can assist in the department in which they are most interested, based on need. Volunteers assisting the elderly will work with them in painting, reading, dance, and manual work and also serve them lunch. There may also be opportunities for volunteer work with the day care center for children and with the housing projects.
