This organization is part of the national organization for children and families. It was created December 4, 1992, for the functional rehabilitation of people with partial and total visual impairment. The organization strives to teach both children and adults ways to improve their quality of life. It offers programs specifically geared toward the visually impaired. It also works to integrate people with their community, both in the social and employment arenas.
Volunteers can assist with any one of the diverse areas in which services are provided: social work, psychology, mobility, life skills, occupational therapy, Braille, information technology, recreation, mathematics, etc.
Work Schedule: Varies. Usually Monday-Friday.
Location of Placements: Quito
Lodging: Hostal (shared room, no meals). Homestay available at extra cost.
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
- Minimum Spanish level: Low-Intermediate
- Experience with the visually impaired preferred.
- Knowledge of Braille a plus.
- Compassion and sincere interest in helping.
