Founded in 2003 by 2 concerned artists and residents of Monteverde, the Casa de Arte is a model workshop for the arts as a form of communication. Its goal is to encourage the population of the area to use art as a way of self-expression and to look inside themselves to create. Casa de Arte is dedicated to the creation and selling of art by the two founding women (mainly painting and pottery but there is much more). The founding women are interested in sharing what they know with the community in order to make a difference in their perspective of life through art. They also sell art created by other people in the community.
Even though Monteverde has a big English speaking population, the two women who run this project do not speak very much English. It is located between Santa Elena and Monteverde in Costa Rica, surrounded by a tropical cloud forest and with a small playground on site. They have organized several projects involving children from local schools and women of the community.
Depends on interest and experience. Volunteer serve as workshop's assistant, store sales person, gardening assistant and teacher of special courses.
Work Schedule: Full time job (10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.), 2 days off (which days is a decision made by negotiating with the people from the placement).
Location of Placements: Monteverde
Lodging: Homestay or Volunteer Residence.
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
- Minimum Spanish level: Low-Intermediate
- Related skills and experience.
