Founded in 1991 by concerned parents and residents of Monteverde, the school is a model bilingual school located high in the Tilaran mountains in central Costa Rica. The campus is surrounded by a tropical cloud forest and overlooks the Gulf of Nicoya. The school is committed to academic excellence with environmental education as the core of the curriculum. The goal is to encourage a generation of ecologically aware bilingual people. The student body is 96% Costa Rican and 4% North American.
Teacher, teacher's assistant, special courses. Flexible based on experience and interests of the volunteer, as well as based on the needs of the school at the time.
Work Schedule: 7am-3pm, Mon-Fri. One week vacation every 3 months (to leave country in order to renew 90 day visa). Classes run Feb.-June and Aug-Dec. Closed mid Jun-late July and mid Dec-late Jan.
Location of Placements: Monteverde
Lodging: Homestay.
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 20 weeks.
- Minimum Spanish level: High-Beginner
- Must be committed, independent & responsible.
- Longer time commitments for teaching positions.
Important Things to Consider:
- Mostly English will be used for this placement.
- Little to no nightlife in the area.
