Finca La Flor is part of La Asociación para el Desarrollo de la Consiencia Ambiental e Humana. It is a non-profit organization that focuses its energies on the continuance of natural resources and the protection of the health of the community. Its goal to educate the community about the local environment is carried out through the environmental school and the agro-ecological farm. This alternative living community is run by the cooperative work of neighbors and organizations.
Volunteers assist in the following areas based on their skills and interests as well as on the needs of the organization at the time: Agriculture, Compost, Construction (houses, schools, other facilities), Ecology, Alternative Energy, Goat Farm.
Work Schedule: Typical schedule: 07:00-12:00, 7 days/week. This is flexible (Sometimes Mon-Fri. schedule OK). Arranged on-site.
Location of Placements: Cartago (1 1/4 hour east of San José)
Lodging: Volunteer lodges with bunk beds that house 4-6 volunteers. (Small cabins available for 2 people - but no electricity.) 3 meals/day are provided buffet style. Somewhat basic accommodations. Clean shee
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
- Minimum Spanish level: High-Beginner
- Good physical condition - very demanding work.
- Related experience.
Important Things to Consider:
- Remote, small, rural town.
- Work is very hands-on.
- Spanish classes available while working @$5/hour.
