In Samraong, Cambodia’s newest province, there is a growing need for English teachers. This program consists of working with local students between 7 and 18 years old. The teaching program serves both for giving children in rural Cambodia the chance to speak more English and to give the volunteer an insight into Cambodian education while making new friends.
These schools encourage a non-formal approach to teaching. This means that volunteers will be free to choose their own methods of teaching and may bring their own ideas into class. The subjects volunteers teach can change, depending on current activities in the schools and might include, for example, environmental issues.
Work Schedule: A typical work day has you leaving for the nearby school by bicycle before 8am, you will have lunch there and will finish around 4pm.
Location of Placements: Samraong, Cambodia
Lodging: Local home-stays or a guest house where this is not feasible (larger groups). Limited laundry facilities so expect to wash your clothes by hand. All participants are expected to be environmentally aware and to use all resources with restraint, especially water, paper and electricity.
All meals are included during your stay. The meals will be typical Cambodian fare, including plenty of rice dishes.
