An NGO that works with street children. The goal of this institution is to rehabilitate these children so they can participate in society as productive citizens. To achieve this goal, they get the children off the streets, feed them, give them a place to stay, teach them a job, give them information on hygiene, civil rights, etc. The institution runs two homes. One is a shelter where the children can safely sleep, shower, and eat. The other is where they learn a profession and work at the same time.
Teaching English, hygiene, civil rights, counseling, and assisting with school work. Also, the organization will welcome suggestions/ideas, volunteers might have in order to develop their work and or achieve the organization’s goals.
Work Schedule: Varies.
Location of Placements: 15 minutes by bus from school in Maceio
Lodging: Student Apartment
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
- Minimum Portuguese level: Mid-Intermediate
- Experience working with street children or children with emotional problems
- Lots of patience, energy, and creativity!
Important Things to Consider:
- This placement can be very difficult. The children have emotional and/or behavioral problems, sometimes severe.
- The volunteers have to be open minded and should not expect a list of tasks to be done.

The maximum number of volunteers that this organization accepts is 2.
