This hospital is run by an order of priests and works specifically with handicap children. It also serves as a boarding school for 170 children, ages 1 to 17 years old. The children are orphans who were born in smaller villages outside of Sucre. Because of their physical and/or mental disabilities, these children are not accepted into orphanages and therefore are cared for in this hospital. Currently there are two programs in operation, a rehabilitation clinic for children and a boarding school.
Volunteers in the Rehabilitation Clinic help the children with their exercises, play with them, take them to the park, play football (soccer), and any other appropriate activity. The children are excellent players!
Work Schedule: Varies. Usually mornings and/or afternoons.
Location of Placements: Sucre
Lodging: Homestay during classes. Volunteer lodging during placement.
