This is an orphanage located in the center of the city. The orphanage cares for children ages 0-6years old who have been abandoned and/or are waiting to be adopted. The regular full-time staff consists of religious nuns and other local professionals. The orphanage is a very well maintained place with nice facilities. Because of the high quality care they provide, they have been awarded various honors from among other local orphanages in Sucre.
Volunteers are needed to organize recreational activities for the children in the orphanage, such as painting, drawing, dances, play dough, music and sports. Volunteers will also assist in basic daily care of the children including cooking, feeding and cleaning. Volunteers should be flexible to take initiative as needed and also to help with other various tasks depending on the needs at the time.
Work Schedule: Varies. Schedule arranged on-site.
Location of Placements: Sucre (city center)
Lodging: Student Apartment
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
- Minimum Spanish level: High-Beginner
- Related experience/interest.
- Ability to take initiative to organize activities.
Important Things to Consider:
- The children need energetic adults who can provide the love and attention that they crave.
- This is a religiously affiliated organization. Volunteers need not be of a certain religion, but should be respectful while in the placement.
Other Comments:
The maximum number of volunteers that this organization accepts is 20.
