Non-profit organization that rescues animals that have been in captivity. Machia National Park was developed on 36 hectares donated by the Bolivian government and is now a protected area where the animals are cared for and protected. This protected forest is found near the town of Villa Tunari, 4 hours from Cochabamba on the road to Santa Cruz.
Volunteers from all parts of the world are at this organization to work with the animals. Volunteers feed, care for and protect the animals before returning them to their natural environment.
Work Schedule: Full-time. Specific schedule arranged on-site. Volunteers should expect to work evenings and/or weekends if needed.
Location of Placements: Villa Tunari (4 hrs from Cochabamba, towards Sta. Cruz)
Lodging: The park has 2 houses equipped with everything necessary for volunteers.
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
- Minimum Spanish level: High-Beginner
- Interest in ecology and in working with adolescents.
- Demonstrated interest in working with animals (extensive experience not required).
- Ability to live simply.
Important Things to Consider:
- Basic living arrangements.
- Volunteers are from all over the world. Participants should be open to working, living and sharing with people from other countries.
- Humid, rainy weather, lots of mosquitos.
- At least one week of language classes are recommended, in order to meet with the onsite staff.
Other Comments:
The maximum number of volunteers that this organization accepts is 10+.
