This organization has been in existence for 40 years. It is dedicated to the social pastoral promotion of humanitarian projects. This organization works in small villages outside of Sucre. The main aim of the program is to give better living conditions and education to the residents of some of the poorer villages and communities. Some projects include: forestation, basic construction, alternative education, civil rights awareness, public health, and more. One of the branches of this organization is in an indigenous community called Falafaya (about 1 hour from Sucre). All of the village residents speak an indigenous language called Quechua, but the on-site staff members all speak Spanish.

The tasks depend on the project occurring at the time. Often physical labor is involved.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday all day.

Location of Placements: Sucre, Bolivia

Lodging: Lodging usually in the village school or medical building Mon-Fri. Simple meals are provided in villages. During the weekends, you will stay in a hostel in Sucre.


Requirements:
  • Minimum age: 18 years.
  • Minimum commitment: 4 weeks.
  • Minimum Spanish level: Mid-Intermediate
  • Experience living in remote areas w/ very basic living conditions.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Construction skills a plus!

Important Things to Consider:
  • Basic conditions during the week (no electricity, latrines, river bathing, simple meals, etc)
  • This is a Catholic organization. Specific religious affiliation not required.

Basic conditions during the week (no electricity, latrines, river bathing, simple meals, etc). Bring warm clothes for sleeping at night, flashlight, hiking boots, anti-diarrhea medication, sunblock, sleeping bag, extra food, winter gloves and hat.
