My Fundraising Story - Lucie Cole

My mission in life is to help create positive change by empowering individuals, strengthening relationships, and organizing strong communities with healthy values. I have been blessed with a unique opportunity to begin this mission at an early age. At barely eighteen years old, I will be taking off for La Ceiba, Honduras, where I will spend my summer as a social work volunteer.

Living in Honduras excites me for many reasons. First, it's Honduras! I have always dreamed of going here. The culture is beautiful; the beach is beautiful; the people are beautiful. I especially look forward to playing with the children, as this is always my favorite part of traveling abroad. (It's actually my favorite part of life in general. Foreign countries + little kids = really happy me.) While in Honduras, I will live with a family, take language classes, and serve as a full-time social work volunteer in the community. I am not yet sure whether I will be placed in a day care center or at a school, but I know that either placement will teach me so much and will open my eyes, heart, and mind to the world around me.

Volunteering in Honduras is also great step for me as I work towards my goal of becoming a social worker one day. I want to work with children and teenagers, which is exactly what I will be doing in Honduras.

Any contribution you can make, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. A college student's pocketbook and plans to stay in nonprofits for a while make funding this trip a little difficult, but I know that this is what I am meant to be doing right now.
