Taormina/Sicily Independent Teen

Known for its diverse regions, rich culture, and fabulous food, boot-shaped Italy possesses perhaps the most instantly identifiable physical shape of any country in the world. You can visit Roman ruins, gawk at Renaissance art, stay in tiny hill towns, ski the Alps, explore the canals of Venice, and see more churches than you can imagine. Naturally, you can indulge in the elementary pleasures of good food, improving your wardrobe, and seeking out "la dolce vita." From its beaches to its Alpine mountains, Italy vibrates with a special soul that is reflected in its people, music, and art.

Taormina is perfectly situated to offer students easy access to the beautiful and historically important treasures of Sicily. With many visitors, Taormina offers shops, hotels, restaurants, and a variety of entertainment and sports (windsurfing, scuba diving, mountain-biking, mountain-climbing, rafting, tennis and golf). For walkers the surroundings of Taormina are a beautiful paradise. There are several trails leading down to the sea and up to the picturesque village of Castelmola. You can also climb to the top of the highest mountain in the area, Monte Venere, where one of the three Greek Venus temples is rumored to have been. The entire region is also known worldwide for its traditional food and Mount Etna, which is the largest active volcano in Europe.

School Facilities: The school is housed in a four story IXX century building which faces the community tennis courts, the lush public gardens, the Ionian Sea and the great volcano. The roof-top terrace and student lounge offer one of the most amazing views available in Taormina. The school also provide a library, audio/visual room, email, and coffee machine. Homestay with breakfast daily.

Activities/Excursions: On weekdays the school arranges activities at the school such as movies, lectures, and music. Guided tours, theater trips, dinners and live music are also arranged, but may involve an extra cost for transportation or entrance fees. Weekend excursions are offered to the following locations: Syracuse, Mount Volcano Etna, Catania, Piazza Armerina, Noto, Messina, Morgantina. Palermo and Agrigento. Western Sicily is a bit longer of a trip but still it is possible to visit over a weekend.

Lodging & Meals: Breakfast daily with host family
