Universidad Veritas

The community of Universidad Veritas consists of approximately fifteen hundred members including local students, professors and administrative staff. This institution offers a wide range of humanities, business, international relations and environmental studies electives in Spanish and English. In addition to these courses, Veritas is well known for its art, design, and architecture programs.

Students have the option of pairing electives with Spanish language courses. Students are given a placement test, which will indicate which courses the students are eligible for. Generally those students in lower to intermediate language levels will take Spanish courses in addition to one or two electives. Those students who place into advanced levels may enroll in the university's regular courses (art, design, architecture) with Costa Rican students. Veritas also offers several cultural activities and excursions for both local and international students to participate in.

Facilities

The university is located in a quieter residential area of San Jose with easy access to the center of the city; only 10 minutes. Students will take classes in modern buildings which are not only illuminated by natural light but also by the surrounding garden areas. In addition to fully equipped classrooms the school offers a well- maintained library, cafeteria, computer lab, photography lab, and design workshop.

Participants

The majority of students are degree seeking Costa Rican students. The study abroad students are mostly from U.S. and Europe.

Accommodations

Students will live with Costa Rican families in homes throughout San Jose. Living with a host family provides one of the most efficient ways to practice Spanish. Students are included in all family activities, providing integration on a social and cultural level. Homestays include 2 meals daily and laundry service.
