Medical Spanish Program Overview
The Alajuela, Costa Rica program is for four or five weeks and includes: 20 hours of Spanish classes per week (max 4 students in class); private room with a host family; 2 meals daily (lunch is not included); medical visits , discussions/lectures on Costa Rican health issues, cultural activities, transportation from San Jose airport; orientation and materials. FIFTH WEEK ONLY: For students at a Mid Intermediate level and above, approximately 8 hours per day Clinical Observation in a rural clinic or nursing home.

Requirements
Your Spanish level must be Mid-Beginner or higher. This program is open to the following: 1st year Med Student, 2nd year Med Student, 3rd year Med Student, 4th year Med Student, Allied Health Students, EMTs, Nurses, Nursing Students, Other Health Professionals, Physician Assistants, Pre-Med students.

More About The Location
Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by a friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army. This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with national parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, excluding New Zealand. However, the small pre-Columbian indigenous population was wiped out by diseases brought to the new world by the conquistadors.
With a population of around 100,000 and average temperatures of 74-80 degrees, Alajuela offers the language traveler the relaxed environment of a small tropical city and easy access to San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital (15 miles east of Alajuela).
