Host School:
AmeriSpan's Spanish for International Business program in Alajuela, Costa Rica targets business students looking to improve their Spanish while being introduced to the normal practices of business and trade in Costa Rica and Latin America. This four-week summer program prepares participants linguistically in the four communicative skills (speaking, listening, writing & reading) through reading, research, oral presentations and written reports. An important component of the program will be field trips and three independent research missions.

With a population of around 100,000 and average temperatures of 74-80 degrees, Alajuela offers the language traveler the relaxed environment of a small tropical city and easy access to San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital (15 miles east of Alajuela).
Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by a friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army. This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with national parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, excluding New Zealand. However, the small pre-Colombian indigenous population was wiped out by diseases brought to the new world by the conquistadors.
