Jaco Beach area is widely regarded as the most consistent surf in the country. The Spanish and Surfing program is offered year round in 1, 2, or 4 week durations. Beginning surf students will be introduced to the basics of paddling, standing and turning, along with wave selection and other fundamental skills. Participants with previous experience are taken on guided surf sessions in the area of Jaco Beach/Hermosa.

Long known as the surf capital of Costa Rica, Jaco is an active beach town, attracting both foreigners and ticos alike. Jaco's proximity as the closest real beach town to San Jose makes it an extremely popular weekend destination for residents from the capital region. In addition to fantastic surf conditions, Jaco offers endless opportunities for water sports and other outdoor activities, as well as a bustling nightlife.
Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by a friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army. This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with national parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, excluding New Zealand. However, the small pre-Columbian indigenous population was wiped out by diseases brought to the new world by the conquistadors.
Participants: Mostly from the US and Europe, with average ages between 18 and 35.
Other: Spanish classes are designed to assist participants to learn/expand and become comfortable with communicating in Spanish. The schedule for Spanish classes varies and is based around high tide.

Program Notes
REGISTER EARLY! Due to popularity of program, limited availability for May-July start dates.
Private room upgrade: $130/week. Limited availability December-March and May-August
Surfboards are provided during surf lessons during the week (Monday-Friday). If you wish to surf during the weekends boards may be rented or purchased at many of the local surf shops in Jaco.
Additional items to pack for surfing: rash guard, wax (note: these items can be purcharsed in Jaco)
