Yucatan Spanish Institute for Educators
Merida, Mexico
The city, built on the ruins of the Mayan city of t-ho, has been the social and economic center of the Yucatan since the conquistadors arrived. Close proximity to ruins and spectacular beaches have attracted Mexicans and foreigners to relocate to Merida. Even with a population of nearly 800,000, the city has managed to retain its colonial charm and links to its Mayan heritage. Merida's tree-lined avenues, diverse cultural influences and relaxed lifestyle make for an ideal location to study Spanish.
