Learn Arabic in Al Ain
Arabic Immersion in United Arab Emirates
Learning Arabic abroad in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates is one of many language immersion programs offered by AmeriSpan. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a union of seven emirates or states each with its own unique character and personality, which was formed when the British withdrew from the Gulf in 1971. You can see cities with skyscrapers, a sophisticated network of highways dissecting the country, tree-lined boulevards, magnificent shopping malls, and beautiful parks, all side by side with the silent desert, wind towers and camels. Much has changed in a short period of time, creating an amazing juxtaposition of the traditional values of the East and the modern technologies of the West. This country is literally crime-free.
Learn Arabic Language in United Arab Emirates:
*School will close for good on Sept 30, 2008*, See sister school in Buraimi, Oman
Located about 100 miles (1 1/2 hours by car) from Dubai on the border between the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The dry heat of Al Ain is a welcome relief from the humidity of the coast during the summer. Its sister town, Buraimi, is on the Omani side of the border, but visitors can move freely between the two, making this a fine way to get a taste of Oman without the hassle of obtaining a visa. Located just outside the city is Hafit Mountain, which is the highest point in the country and offers a panoramic view of the Empty Quarter. It is also a popular tourist rendezvous and the site of archaeological finds dating back to the end of the fourth millennium BC. One of the most popular spectator sports is the camel races which reflect the traditions of the desert.
School Facilities:
The main facility is located just outside the center of Al Ain close to shops, restaurants and a local university. The air-conditioned school building has 7 classrooms, large kitchen and roof-top study area which can be used during the cooler winter months. There is a second building located in Buraimi, Oman closer to the hotel where participants stay which is a bit nicer than the Al Ain school but capacity is limited.
Participants:
The majority of participants are from Europe and North America. Mostly professionals average age around 30 years.
Other:
The hotel where participants stay is in Buraimi on the Oman side of the border. May switch to sister campus in Buraimi (subject to availability). Students can obtain a taxi for the trip back and forth to school for $5-$7/day. Hotels are also available in Al Ain but prices are much higher than Buraimi.
