Learn French in Montreux

Montreux, Switzerland

Learning French abroad in Montreux, Switzerland is one of many language immersion programs offered by AmeriSpan. Although small in size in comparison to its European neighbors, Switzerland more than makes up for this fact with its breathtaking mountains, interesting mix of cultures and culinary delights. Surrounded by Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein, it has a large German-speaking population to the north (about 66%), and smaller French-speaking area to the west (18%) and Italian to the south (10%). In the isolated mountain valley areas, mainly in Graubunden, a fourth language called Romansch is spoken by about 1% of the population.

The majestic Alps, which cover approximately 60% of the country’s land, are famous for climbing, skiing, snowboarding, biking, hiking and other fun activities. Swiss cuisine borrows its culinary traditions from German and French cuisines. Some commonly eaten foods are rosti (crispy, fried and shredded potatoes), meat or cheese fondue, and raclette (cheese that is melted and then served on boiled potatoes with or without meats, gherkins and vegetables) to name only a few. In addition to cheese, Switzerland is known for its chocolate.

Learn French Language in Switzerland:
Located on the east end of Lake of Geneva, Montreux, the most visited Swiss Riviera resort, has long been an oasis for expatriates because of its spectacular views of the Dents-du-Midi mountain peaks, a profusion of Mediterranean vegetation and lakeside parks. Most densely populated during the summer months, this resort is favored year-round. The best way to discover the charms of this city is on foot where you can visit the old quarter with its zigzagging streets, hillside terraces and old houses. On the lake, only 2 miles south of Montreux, is the most impressive castle in the country, called the Chateau of Chillon.

Past Participants Who Studied French in Montreux

V Donald D.: I have used Amerispan's service three previous times in three different countries. They have all been growth experiences. I've made many contacts and friends that could not have been made in an ordinary sort of tour. I feel that it has made me much more aware of, and sensitive to, the world beyond my borders. To say something was the worst would imply some unpleasantness, and I wouldn' t like to characterize any of my experience as such.
