Spanish Immersion in Costa Rica
Learning Spanish abroad in San Joaquin, Costa Rica is one of many language immersion programs offered by AmeriSpan. Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by a friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army. This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with national parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, excluding New Zealand. However, the small pre-Columbian indigenous population was wiped out by diseases brought to the new world by the conquistadors.
Learn Spanish Language in Costa Rica:
San Joaquin de Flores located a few miles from Heredia (a university town) and about 12 miles from the capital, San Jose, is perfect for those who want to avoid the daily traffic, pollution and stress of the city, but who will still want the easy access to the shopping and night life. There is excellent bus service to both Heredia and San Jose. Overall, this typical "Tico" town offers the language traveler a great opportunity to experience the local culture.
School Facilities:
Very nice, modern building with large windows and view of a volcano. Located in San Joaquin de Flores, a few minutes outside of Costa Rica's capital. Classes take placemainly in class rooms, but also in the gardens. 17 class rooms. There is a cafeteria, administrative office, student room with 2 computers for email access, ping pong table. Capacity is 70 students/day.
Participants:
Mainly university students and professionals from US and Canada. Some Europeans (mostly from Germany, UK and the Netherlands).
Accreditation Memberships:
Approved for credit through several US institutions including: University of Southern Mississippi.
Other:
Additional campus in Monteverde (in the mountains, bu the Cloudforest Reserve), and at Flamingo Beach. Accommodations with homestays. You can sign up fr the Monteverde or/and Flamingo Beach campus when registering. Onsite changes usually require 2 weeks notice, $50 charge, and are based on availability.
