A long time favorite for groups, Heredia is a medium-sized city, just a few miles from Costa Rica’s capital of San Jose. Despite its small size, Heredia maintains a youthful and urban feel. Students will be busy here with daily Salsa and Merenge classes and a weekly cooking class. Because the school also teaches English to locals, students have the opportunity to meet, practice conversational skills, and make a local friend. Located within a 5-minute walk of all main points of interest in the city, the school provides an attractive base for groups
Information about Heredia, Costa Rica (Click to view)
Heredia (pop 50,000) is located 6 miles north of San Jose. The city and its surrounding areas provide all the conveniences of a medium-sized city in an environment, which has escaped, to a large extent, the normal urban problems affecting the capital. The city has a surprisingly youthful and urban feeling despite its small size. This is due to the presence of the many young Costa Ricans attending the National University. Many of Costa Rica’s famous coffee plantations surround Heredia where one can still see ox-carts loaded with beans.
Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by a friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army. This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with national parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, excluding New Zealand. However, the small pre-Colombian indigenous population was wiped out by diseases brought to the new world by the conquistadors.
Participants: This program is open to students of all ages.
