Start Dates:
Nestled in the village of Carrillos, just outside the main town of Alajuela, the institute is encased surrounded by nature, making Alajuela an excellent location to teach students about plant life, animals, and the environment in addition to Spanish. Students will soon feel at home in this small close-knit community. Host families are warm and welcoming and look after the student with great care. With its central location, Alajuela makes the ideal base for weekend excursions outside the Central Valley.

With a population of around 100,000 and average temperatures of 74-80 degrees, Alajuela offers the language traveler the relaxed environment of a small tropical city and easy access to San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital (15 miles east of Alajuela).
Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by a friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army. This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with national parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, excluding New Zealand. However, the small pre-Colombian indigenous population was wiped out by diseases brought to the new world by the conquistadors.
