In a city where ancient meets modern, Beijing had plenty of both worlds for groups to experience. Today a trip to Beijing gives the impression that one is witnessing the blending of ages. Ancient temples can be found amongst rising skyscrapers. Steel and concrete are steadily replacing silk and carved wood as old traditions compete with modern-day conveniences. To complete the contrasting attitude of the city, locals find time to sit, play chess, and talk, despite the hurried pace of city life. Language students in Beijing can take advantage of these opportunities to learn Mandarin in a relatively pure form from friendly locals.
Information about Beijing, China (Click to view)
An ancient capital of six dynasties, Beijing is one of the most famous historical and cultural cities in the world. Temples, parks, and historic sites all sing wonderfully and powerfully of the dream that was Old Cathay, but in the same hallowed space there's a new Beijing taking shape. Just outside the exquisite walls of Beijing's monuments, steel and concrete are steadily replacing silk and carved wood.
China is more than a country – it is a whole different world, from shop-till-you-drop metropolises to the epic grasslands of Inner Mongolia, with deserts, sacred peaks, astounding caves, and imperial ruins in between. Along with the stark contrasts comes stark beauty; there is plenty to see if you can wade through the crowds.
Participants: This program is open to groups of all ages.
